Distinguished Alumni Award

The Distinguished Alumni Award recognizes McMaster University graduates who have attained a high level of distinction and achievement through scholarship, research, teaching, creative contributions to the arts or sciences and/or service to society. Two Distinguished Alumni Awards will be offered each year, one in the Arts (comprising Humanities, Performing and Fine Arts, Social Sciences and Business) and one in the Sciences (comprising Science, Engineering and Health Sciences). Recipients of the Distinguished Alumni Award will be chosen annually by the Selection Committee from among the nominations submitted. Nominations will be retained and reconsidered annually for a period of three years. The Distinguished Alumni Award is presented at Fall Convocation, and cannot be conferred in absentia.

Honorary Member

The Alumni Association also recognizes the outstanding service of those who are not alumni. Honorary membership in the Alumni Association may be granted to any person, who is not otherwise a member of the Alumni Association, for unusual contribution to the Association or the University. It is also granted to anyone who has received an honorary degree from the University.

Distinguished Service Award

The highest volunteer award of the McMaster Alumni Association is given in recognition of outstanding contribution and dedication to the Alumni Association and its mission as stated in the Alumni Association constitution. Long-term loyalty and dedication are key ingredients of these very special volunteers. One volunteer is awarded per year and the award can be conferred in absentia.

Alumni Gallery

Granted in recognition of McMaster University’s most interesting and accomplished alumni who make outstanding contributions to society. The Alumni Gallery Sub-Committee reviews all nominees and recommends five to seven alumni alumni to the Board for approval to induct into the Alumni Gallery. Nominations can be conferred in absentia.

McMaster Alumni Hamilton Community Impact Award

The award recognizes outstanding contribution by McMaster graduates to the Hamilton community. The award will recognize individuals who have made a positive impact on the Hamilton community within the past three years, enhancing the quality of life while reflecting the values of McMaster – integrity, quality and teamwork.

Nomination deadline: February 1st       


McMaster Alumni GTA Community Impact Award

The award recognizes outstanding contribution by McMaster graduates to communities around the world. The award will recognize individuals who have made a positive impact on their community, regardless of location, within the past three years, enhancing the quality of life while reflecting the values of McMaster – integrity, quality and teamwork.

Nomination deadline: February 1st


The McMaster Arch Award


The Arch Award is conferred to McMaster University’s most recent graduates for success in career endeavours, interesting, unusual or innovative accomplishments in his or her public or personal life, or notable contributions to society, to local communities or to the McMaster community. Four to five alumni receive this award per year. Award can be conferred in absentia.

McMaster Marauder Hall of Fame

The McMaster Hall of Fame began in 1984 and is now a well-established program at McMaster University. The Hall of Fame aims to recognize outstanding athletic achievement, highlighting those individuals who have significant provincial (OUA) and national (CIS) credentials.

The Albert Lager Prize for Student Initiative Awards

This award recognizes current students and student groups who provide support, leadership and community involvement/service to their Faculty or Special Program or to McMaster University. Awards can be conferred in absentia.
