Victoria: Alumni Talk with Dr. Michael Hayes

Michael Hayes has three degrees in Geography and Earth Sciences and Health Sciences from McMaster, where he and his future wife Lillian were heavily involved in many aspects of campus life. What he did after he left campus epitomizes the McMaster tradition of interdisciplinary study, combining those degrees and experiences in his search for a deeper understanding of health. His research interests involve social geographies of health, and health and public policy.
Although he's a first-generation university graduate he has led a life in academia on Canada's west coast. He was a faculty member at Simon Fraser University for 22 years before he and Lillian moved in 2010 to the University of Victoria to take on a role as Director of Health Research and Education. He has also been involved in several committees for both the provincial and federal governments.

Michael was inducted into the McMaster Alumni Gallery in recognition of his many accomplishments. Karen McQuigge, Director of Alumni Advancement, invites you and a guest to join her for tea at the Fairmont Empress and to hear Michael's story. There will be plenty of time to mingle with one another after the talk.
