Martin Premru, loving husband (Shelley), father (Ava (2 ½)), brother, uncle, son and dear friend of many passed away with his loving wife by his side peacefully at home on September 26, 2021, after an 8-month battle with glioblastoma.

Martin leaves behind his young daughter Ava, who he loved so fiercely and his beloved wife.  An engineer by trade, Martin worked for 20+ years in the specialized construction industry with Tractel Ltd.  His most important job however, was being a dad.  He cherished his time with Ava and will live on in her laughter and infectious smile.  Martin was also devoted friend,  who was loved by so many.

Martin loved to travel and explore all the world had to offer.  Bike tours through Cuba with friends, exploring Asia, Europe and regular trips to enjoy the beaches of Bermuda.

His unexpected diagnosis was a devastating one, with the illness coming out of the blue.  With little to no new treatments in the past few decades, GBM is truly one of the most insidious and deadly of cancers.   Upon reading about Cindy Lee Graham’s selfless donation to the McMaster research team headed by Dr Sheila Singh, Martin’s family decided to give the same gift; all in hopes of advancing the research surrounding treatments specifically for glioblastomas.   It brings comfort that this gift may save another family the heartbreaking loss of a loved one to glioblastoma.

“When we lose someone we love, we must learn not to live without them, but to live with the love they left behind” Unknown

All donations made in Martin’s memory will be directed to support efforts undertaken by Dr. Sheila Singh’s Lab to advance research surrounding treatments for GBM.
