Can my non-McMaster grad spouse or friends join the trip?
Of course! All trips are open to McMaster alumni, donors, and friends.
How many travellers will be on the trip?
Trip size varies per trip and provider, but will not exceed 40 passengers and often as few as 20 travellers.
Will the trip be offered exclusively to McMaster alumni?
Many of our trips are shared departures with other Canadian University alumni associations. When offered exclusively to McMaster alumni, this will be noted in the itinerary.
What are the physical requirements?
While requirements will vary, most trips have a significant amount of walking required throughout the day-to-day itinerary. If you have concerns, please make inquiries about the specific itinerary you are interested in.
What about airfare?
Unless otherwise specified, all trips are priced land-only. This provides flexibility for travellers to use points to book their flights or work with their preferred travel agent for air arrangements. Most trips do provide a group flight option typically from Toronto however, our travel providers will provide quotes from other gateways, as well as for travel deviations, pre and post trip arrangements.
What about travel insurance?
Travel insurance, including medical, cancellation and baggage insurance, or “any reason” insurance is strongly recommended. Travellers are encouraged to use their regular insurance providers, check insurance benefits offered through their credit cards, employer programs etc. Our travel providers are also happy to provide optional insurance packages for travel insurance.
What are the passport and visa requirements?
You will need a valid passport that does not expire within three months of the end of your trip. It is the traveller’s responsibility to ensure they have a valid passport. Visit www.passportcanada.gc.ca for up-to-date information regarding obtaining or renewing your Canadian passport.
If your trip destination requires a travel visa, you will be advised in the brochure and in most cases, you will be responsible for obtaining the relevant visa. The local Embassy or Consulate for the destination country will be able to provide information about the process of obtaining a visa, including documentation requirements. Will I need to be vaccinated?
Travellers are encouraged to visit their doctor before travelling to ensure vaccinations are up-to-date, to discuss fitness for travel and to learn about any special inoculations that may be required for the destination. The Canadian Consular Affairs website at travel.gc.ca
is a useful site to see any precautions or requirements for travel to various destinations.
How much luggage can I bring?
Luggage allocations and the permissibility of certain items are under the jurisdiction of individual airlines, though experienced travellers limit themselves to one checked bag and one carry-on per person. Be sure to check the allowances and restrictions for your carrier. Most airlines now have strict limitations for carry-on baggage including limitations on quantities of liquids or gels to 100 milliliters each.
