Why sign up for the service?

Email forwarding allows you to provide friends and family with one email address for life. No matter how many times you change jobs, ISPs and email addresses, they will always be able to reach you through your McMaster address. Just keep your email forwarding information up-to-date in the My Profile section and the email forwarding service will automatically forward to you any messages received at your McMaster address.

You have access to your email for a short period of time after you graduate, and access will expire March 31 after your convocation (refer to UTS Service Desk for details). However, you can set up an email forwarding address through our system so that all future emails sent to your @mcmaster.ca email address are forwarded to another email account of yours.

Before you can establish your email forwarding, your @mcmaster.ca email address must expire. If you still have access to your @mcmaster.ca inbox, you are not eligible for email forwarding. Unfortunately, an unavoidable interruption in service occurs between your email address expiration and the activation of email forwarding.

How to set up email forwarding

  1. Register with our alumni system (use the Register Now link at the top of this site) or Log In.
  2. Click the My Public Profile link at the top of the site.
  3. Navigate to the Account Management tab and scroll down to the email forwarding section.
  4. Enter your non-McMaster email address and be sure to click Save.

Any trouble? Just email us.

I've changed my email service provider and now have a new email address that I need to update so my McMaster forwarding email address will continue to work. What do I do?

First, login here. Once you are logged in, select My Profile in the top navigation (use right menu and scroll down on mobile). Click on the Account Management tab and under the Email Forwarding heading, type in your new personal email address. Once entered, click Submit.

Due to the nature of this updating process, it takes 2 to 3 days to have your record modified.

I just graduated, and I want to sign up for e-mail forwarding and select an alias to request the same address I had as a student. Is this possible?

Congratulations on completing your university studies! Due to the timing of the transfer of the data from the Registrar's Office to Office of Alumni Advancement, you cannot sign up for the email forwarding service until after your convocation ceremony and the transfer of information is complete. In addition to this, your @mcmaster.ca will need to expire before you will be able to successfully sign up for forwarding.

Students who have just graduated are allowed a grace period when they can still use their undergraduate email address. For more information, please visit: http://www.mcmaster.ca/uts

Why I am receiving junk email (spam) messages?

Junk email (spam) is a significant problem for computer system users and administrators. McMaster is constantly looking at improved ways to detect spam and viruses for university-administered email accounts. However, in the case of email forwarding, it becomes the job of your email service provider (e.g. Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, etc.) to detect spam. Most email service providers enable some form of spam protection and some offer various levels of security. Please refer to your email service provider for additional information on what they offer.

What if I would like to keep access to my McMaster email address completely (not just forward)?

Unfortunately, that's not possible.

Please note that McMaster University does not publish any email addresses nor do they sell addresses to third party vendors for use in mass distribution lists.
